5 out of 5 stars Inspiring   September 28, 2008

Great message. The writing is a little on the arrogant side, but it flows, and it's message is very timely.

3 out of 5 stars Spirituality for depressed, introverted and childless people   September 23, 2008
Eric Vanasse (Montreal, Canada)
Although Tolle put his finger on something important, namely that our ego has too much influence over our lives, he pushes this to an extreme where our ego becomes our worst enemy.

Living an egoless awaken life may be an interesting goal for an introverted childless man battling depression, as Tolle admitted he was, but it is not realistic for a parent with three children.

Read the Book of Secrets by Deepak Chopra instead. With Chopra, spirituality is not a quick fix to all personal and global problems but a layered process where you don't have to wage a holy war within yourself to deny a fundamental part of who you are, your ego.

3 out of 5 stars Perfect example of anti-Christ humanist philosophy...   August 25, 2008

This book has many helpful psychological tricks for those of us who know we require self-help. They are but a validation for the philosophy that goes against the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Tolle quotes Jesus in this book often, and mostly completely wrongly. He does not take the picked-out words in context of the whole chapter he takes it from. What is worse, Tolle insists that only HIS interpetations of these verses from the Holy Bible are correct, and further that anyone who thinks otherwise than him is blatantly WRONG!
This shows the desperation in which Tolle clings to his Eastern Philosophical Teachings - if he found himself proven wrong, that would invalidate the only alternative he clings to, in order to avoid suicide.
The ATTACK Tolle expounds against Jesus in his previous work, "The Power of Now," is outright blasphemy! That is because he believes his mortal soul is immortal. But he forgets one thing... that which can be created CAN be un-created.
Thank you.

1 out of 5 stars Over-Rated   August 24, 2008

This is mindless dribble and I was amazed that so many people liked it. The writer also takes a couple of ideas and beats them to death. I can tell you what your life's purpose is in only a few words and it won't cost you a dime: it is to learn by your life experiences, to be good to yourself and others and then go HOME. Reading Sylvia Browne's book will be much more helpful to you.
