I HULK SMASH-hit, well to me anywaysNovember 24, 2008 D. Chandon(Toronto, Ontario Canada) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Incredible Hulk, yet another comic based movie has come to DVD and Blu-ray, and I have to say Hulk is one of those interesting characters that is and isn't a superhero. Considering that the Hulk is more a mess of emotional extremes and a force of nature more than a real hero who decides to stand and fight but has a certain moral ambiquity to him since he'll rage out and attack anything that isn't Betty Ross, the Hulk is that creature that is at the edge where reason gives way to blind animalistic rage.
Ed Norton plays Dr. Bruce Banner the alter-ego to the Hulk, as he tries to find a cure to the beast that lives within. However, with the military on Banner's heels in an attempt discover what makes the Hulk tick for military applications. The movie pays a great deal homage to the show with Lou Firigno making another cameo, one of the aliases that Bruce Banner being D. Banner, the classic musical ending sequence being used as well, not to mention the whole you don't want to see me when I'm angry or hungry, and the purple pants, not to mention the usual Stan Lee cameo. This Hulk attempts to distance itself from the Ang Lee, chubby Hulk with Nick Nolte playing one of the worst enemies ever. And this Hulk does the distancing very well, and even and hopefully creates a new franchise with this Hulk.
The potential cross-over is possible with Tony Stark played by RDJ showing up for a little teaser of potenial cross-over and shared story-lines, which is interesting considering that Norton and RDJ are both extremely solid actors and I hope that this is an idea that is explored completely.
This review might be a little biased considering that I love the Hulk as a character, but I really think that this movie is a solid one and one of the better comic movies out there, unfortunately, it came out around the same time as Iron Man and Batman which are both better films, but don't count the big green guy out, it's a solid film and worth the time to see.
DO NOT ORDER THIS BLU-RAY FROM AMAZON.CA IF YOU WANT THE 3-D COVERNovember 18, 2008 K. Cole 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you want a copy of the Incredible Hulk Blu-Ray with the 3-D cover advertised in the picture DO NOT ORDER FROM AMAZON.CA. I pre-ordered my copy over a month in advance and received it on October 31st WITHOUT THE 3-D SLIP-COVER. I e-mailed Amazon my problem and suggested they change the picture if they don't have the product advertised. I received a reply that they needed to do more research and would reply in 3-5 business days. They never did reply nor did they change the picture, so buyer beware on this one. Amazon's service has always been very good, but I was somewhat dissapointed this time. The four star rating above is for the movie, which I hear is quite good(I have not watched it yet but I am a big fan of super-hero movies in general)
Update: I have finally watched the movie and stand by my four star rating. Excellent acting all around and some nice comedic moments that were lacking in the previous film. The chemistry between Norton and Tyler really sold the emotional longing of their impossible relationship. The only points I deduct are for the CGI animation of the Hulk which is better than the previous movie, but hopefully will improve in future sequels.
Hulk smash! This new Hulk a resounding successNovember 2, 2008 Matthew King 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This movie is yet another quality superhero movie to come out this year. I was a little hesitant about this one at first since I felt Ang Lee's original was quite good (although most people felt it was crap). Why remake it yet again, so soon? Well, this Hulk actually kind of picks up where the first one left off, it skips all the stuff about how Banner became to be the Hulk, assuming we already know, and jumps into a story arc about Banner in hiding and isolation in Brazil desperately trying to find a cure.
Norton Jr gives his usual terrific performance, also William Hurt gives a solid performance. Liv Tyler is horrible as usual but I loved how her character was so sympathetic to the hulk and not afraid of him. A bonafide success in the cannon of superhero films with a jaw-dropping shocking ending!
The new Hulk film was well made for a number of reasons,October 8, 2008 Jenny J.J.I.(That Lives in Northern Nevada) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This re-imagining of the green Goliath works far better than Ang Lee's 2003 outing that's for sure. Being an avid admirer of the Bixby/Ferrigno series in the late seventies and early eighties I found this film to be closer in spirit to the series and I definitely liked that.
The Hulk's origins are played out at the very beginning and once that's over and done with audiences are in for a fast paced and enjoyable ride. The film attempts to keep people who liked the series happy as well as the crowd who want it firmly rooted in Marvel tradition. The Hulk battles a foe called The Abomination in the final third, and by the way that fight is pretty amazing, and I gather that that's a person to be found in the original comics.
While Eric Bana was one of the few things that was positive about Hulk (2003), Norton betters him here. He's such a natural performer and he can convey so much with mere expressions. He was the perfect choice to play Banner, in some ways he reminded me of Bixby. Tim Roth is one of those actors who's always good and he doesn't falter here. But William Hurt really surprised me. I've always thought he was good but I'd have to say this is his finest performance in many years. General Ross is a much better written character here than in the 2003 version and Hurt simply excels in the part.
As for the CGI, they work really well. The Hulk looks extremely cool and far better here. He doesn't continue to grow as he gets angrier and while that may annoy some I actually found it a plus. And those huge leaps are history as well, he jumps far enough but nothing compared to Ang Lee's version.
The Incredible Hulk does well what it intends to do which is entertain. Overall it's full of action, very well acted and fairly well written. Must See!
