Love my Nuvi 265WT September 26, 2009 Sean Smith (Ontario, Canada) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
The Garmin 265WT is fantastic. I researched GPS's for over a month. I was set on the Magellen 1470 because of the price and size. However I chose the Garmin because of the many options. I paid $250 and at that time it was a great price. I love the option of selecting another location while driving. The 1470 didn't have this option. The traffic info is a cool option. It's shows up once in a while. At night the screen turns black with only streets lit. This is a great feature. I find locations quickly. The voice sounds fine, neat choices for different accents. The different views of maps has really been a help. We've come to depend on the gps unit. Amazingly, we bought it from Amazon.ca at 2am and received it in "2" days. That was incredible. We thought it would have taken a week. I'm shopping Amazon for now on!
Recent purchase Garmin GPS December 4, 2009 Yvonne Van Wyk (Oshawa,Ontario) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Recently purchased my first GPS; was recommended on TV as a "Best buy".....and I agree! I am not tech savvy and it was easy to set up and use. Directions are explicit and easy to understand. So far I love it!
Great features for an excellent price! January 8, 2010 Thomas Jipp (Calgary, AB) I really love this unit!! It has tons of great features and, after extensive research, definitely appears to me to be one of the biggest bangs for your buck on the market right now. (Mind you, I got a great deal and paid $169.99 CAD on Amazon just after Christmas, which was pretty much the best price out there at the time.) I had been thinking of going with Tom Tom units but their models in this price range didn't have SD Card slots and I have read many a horror story about supposed failed map updates... often as a result of not enough internal memory and other apparently problematic map update issues.
This model is the first GPS I have ever owned since I have always been very good at reading and following traditional maps since it was part of my role in dispatching 911 emergency vehicles for a major city up until the mid-nineties. So, until now, I simply couldn't justify spending good money on a GPS of all "lame" things! Boy, was I wrong! This unit is SO much fun and is choosing routes that I would not have thought of. There is no problem if you miss a turn with this unit since it automatically recalculates routes usually within a second or two. You can also enter multiple enroute stops and it will figure out the most efficient order to drive you to them. I am finding the Bluetooth feature on this unit VERY handy to have... especially with the provinces starting to enact legislation requiring hands-free devices for cell phone use.
One of the complaints that I have read about this unit is a tinny speaker that some claim is not suitable for telephone conversations. Although it is admittedly not the greatest speaker, I have kept my levels at 80% and found that I have really had no trouble hearing people clearly while driving and talking even at high speeds. They seem to hear me very well also. The Free Lifetime FM Traffic Subscription also lured me to this device over others.
Time will tell if I like this unit as much in a month from now, but I am very impressed so far after using it steadily for the past few days.
GPS newbie January 14, 2010 Morris Farmer Love the unit but had a lot of trouble registering it as the serial number did not fit this unit, had to jump through hoops to get it registered and warrantied as the unit had a different registration number and the unit had actually been started in August and I bought it in December??? Could this be a refurbished model? It came as new!! No trouble otherwise yet!
good gps January 16, 2010 The critics (canada) I like it especialy the bluetooth feature.
There are several things needed to be better. When I look for the world time, most of the big cities in the the world are missing. For example : Sidney, Australia; Hong Kong ...etc.
