Simple Media Player That Does what Its Supposed To January 14, 2010 M. Esterhammer (Toronto) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As the title says, the WD TV Live is a simple ethernet ready media player. Plug it into your network and your TV and it works right out of the box, minimal setup and no worries. For the extra few bucks that the Live edition costs, don't bother with the non-ethernet WD TV edition.
WD TV Live January 16, 2010 Colin Lavoie (Fraser Valley,BC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A very handy way to view and enjoy save media. Easily portable too. The remote control is easy to use. This player makes any A/V system a very connected system.
Great unit! January 8, 2010 Honda Prelude Guy (Canada) I got this media player to condense my growing movie collection. It was the perfect choice.
This media player is very well put together and the functionality is just what I needed. I'm was very impressed by how flexible western digital has made this device. It caters to any type of TV, high-def or not, and it has been able to play anything I've thrown at it, no problems whatsoever.
For storage, I coupled it with a Western Digital 2.5in drive in a Zantac case. All in all, I was watching my movies for less than $200. All the cables you'll need are included (unless you're going to use HDMI), and everything works well. This unit is great value.
Quite amazing February 15, 2010 D. Lanouette (Canada) Picture quality is great. Youtube plays amazingly well. You can connect a USB powered hard drive in it but sometimes the drive is not recognized, so you have to reboot the WD. I still have to put some icons here and there to ease navigation. I hope it's not too hard to do. I also hope they continue to develop the firmware to offer more online content in the future.
Perfect February 21, 2010 R. Johnston I have been waiting for something like this for years. I have been keeping a lookout for a network media player but they always seem to have a complaint about transfering video. This little device does it perfectly. It plays all of my videos through windows media server effortlessly. Set up was simple. I did hardwire this into my network for maximum bandwith.
I have also plugged in an external drive through the USB and it picked up the drive and played the videos easily.
I highly recommend this product.
